Knitting By Heart

Creative Journey for all Knitters

Much appreciation goes to our friends from the Fiber Craft Studio for their special contributions to this event and to the book project in general.

During our 5th book launch in the New York area, this time at the Rudolf Steiner Bookstore and Center Point Gallery in Chelsea, 138W 15 Street, NYC, we introduced ‘Knitting by Heart’ and included hands-on knitting and spinning explorations.

We took a look at 3 evolving knitting projects: a head-band (knitting in the round on circular needles) the back of a doll cardigan and the Haramaki I reported on earlier.

As described in the book’s section ‘Deepening our Appreciation’, p. 138, we used simple spinning tools: a stick in the shape of a hook and a stone spindle made of a stone and a stick and transformed locks of Jacob sheep fleece into yarn.

We are pleased to report that ‘Knitting by Heart’ is for sale at the Rudolf Steiner Bookstore.

The spinning explorations were led by Chris Marlow, who will direct the 14th cycle of the Applied Arts Program.

at the beautiful home of Sono Kuwayama in downtown NYC

We began by talking about the essence of the book and presented many knitted pieces of clothing in a sequence starting with spiral gestures followed by horizontal and vertical gestures. We also shared some  stories behind the designs.
Questions and comments from the audience enriched the event.

A portion of the revenue from the sales of the book goes to the Fiber Craft Studio’s Applied Arts Scholarship Fund.

                at the Fellowship Community

On Monday, September 8, in the beautiful Goethe Room of Hilltop House, Renate and friends from the Fiber Craft Studio presented KNITTING BY HEART to the members of the Fellowship Community in Chestnut Ridge, NY. The presentation included a showing of some of the knitted pieces of clothing including stories about their creation and the many years of research and teaching that flowed into the making of the book, which has its roots in community, nature and the teachings of Rudolf Steiner. The showing included variations of some of Mikae's beautiful designs.

We are grateful for the interest and support we have received from many members and co-workers of the Fellowship Community during this special evening as well as during the earlier phases of the making of KNITTING BY HEART.

Launching of KNITTING BY HEART in the garden of the Fiber Craft Studio was a joyous event; the book was well received, much admired and purchased by quite a number of friends and students and culminated with the signing of the books. The revenue will go towards the scholarship fund of the Applied Arts Program, which is now in its 13th cycle and will begin its 14th cycle next Spring.
